The collections shown at New York Fashion Week are always amongst my all-time favourites. Don't get me wrong, you'll still catch me scrolling through the images of the various catwalks from London, Paris and Milan too, but the effortlessly chic (yet never without a unique twist) New York style is right up my street. What a dream it would be to attend one day. For now, though, I thought I would share my favourite AW16 collections from NYFW as I did for SS16.
I loved Marissa Webb's SS16 collection and it's safe to say she's succeeded again. Layering done to perfection and a selection of wearable prints topped off with black knee-high or ankle boots. My ultimate Autumn/Winter wardrobe dream - if only I could afford to purchase all of it!
I've never been a huge fan of military-inspired fashion yet this collection has changed my opinion entirely due to it's subtlety. I love the powerful effect of the monochrome ensembles in navy, khaki and white and the comfortable-looking oversized silhouettes. I'm glad to see that some designers are keeping it minimal after SS16 saw the return of maximalism.
When a show opens with a killer shearling jacket you know it's going to be a good one. I have no words to express how much I love Altuzarra's AW16 offering. The variety of prints in my wardrobe isn't extensive at all, consisting of a lot of stripes and the occasional winter floral, but oh how I adore the patterns used in this collection. It's like boho meets city chic and I am completely obsessed.
I was head over heels for Carolina Herrera's SS16 collection - if you don't recall it, I need say no more than the word 'pink' - and I love this season's just as much, if not more. Never failing to provide flattering and feminine garments, the designer's AW16 collection is much more subtle, using luxe fabrics, floral embroidery and a colour palette of nude, cream, grey and navy with a pop of jewel-toned purple.
MICHAEL KORS COLLECTION:
CALVIN KLEIN COLLECTION:
What is there not to love about sleek and sophisticated tailoring? The Calvin Klein AW16 collection didn't fail on that count, offering a number of luxe tailored black pieces to die for, yet that wasn't what cemented the collection as one of my favourites this season. Instead, I loved the unique prints (particularly the blue and black check print outerwear), faux fur collars and, of course, the plunging necklines.
CUSHNIE ET OCHS:
The LBD in every way/shape/form a girl could ever need. Providing understated glamour at it's best, each look from the Cushnie et Ochs AW16 collection is very refined and polished, topped off with a bold red lip for good measure. A variety of shapes and fabrics were used but what they each have in common is the ability to flatter the female form and provide instant sex appeal.
All in all, I loved seeing what the designers showing at NYFW had to offer this season, though I do think I preferred some of the SS16 collections surprisingly. Now it's time to see what London, Paris and Milan have in store for AW16 and I can't wait. I really do get quite obsessed with keeping updated with the new collections so make sure you follow me on Pinterest to see more of what I love.
