Trend Watch: Denim

Denim has been a year-round staple for a long time in a lot of people's wardrobes but this Spring denim is a huge trend. It was seen throughout the SS15 catwalks, including Burberry and Stella McCartney, and every retailer has denim all over their website homepage right now ready for their fashion hungry consumers to shop the trend. Denim is coming at us in more ways than just one too. Think jackets, skirts, dresses, jumpsuits, and more, meaning this is a trend that even jeans-haters can buy into this season.

Denim is extremely versatile to wear - it comes in many different washes, goes with just about every colour, and can be dressed up or down - so everyone can nail it. One of the most easy, simple ways (and one of my favourites) is pairing a white v-neck tee with ripped jeans and adding some heels to make it look like more effort went in. You really can wear jeans with absolutely anything though.

As mentioned previously, if you don't like jeans then this isn't a problem because there is plenty more pieces currently on offer which are stealing the limelight. I'm a frequent jeans wearer but apart from that I don't tend to wear anything else that fits into the denim department. However, seeing all of the denim clothing on offer on the high street urged me to buy a tie-waist denim shirt dress (shown in a previous post) which is perfect to throw on quickly and is a great transition piece into Spring, working well in colder or warmer weather. Additionally, it is much more comfortable than a pair of jeans if that's what you're looking for.

If you are wanting to be more adventurous going head-to-toe in denim is the one for you. This can be done by wearing a denim jumpsuit/dungarees or taking a risk and sporting "double denim", which in the past has been a huge fashion faux pas but was seen both on the SS15 catwalks (Chloé, Fendi) and many people have been doing it right in street style images. It can be done with two pieces that are the same colour or with two different washes too, both work well if the right styles are chosen.

It's easy to find a garment that fits into this trend, just walk into almost any store and you'd find something but below are some of the pieces I found when having a browse online. I tend to gravitate towards the darker washes but I tried to include some lighter items too.

I absolutely love the darker denim skirt with pockets from Topshop and I have seen many people style denim jumpsuits and look amazing but I'm not sure if I'd be brave enough... I think I'll be sticking to one denim item per outfit!
